Restore the Pride! - YES on Prop C  November 3, 2010

Dear Staff:

By now you know Proposition C was defeated at the polls. The margin of defeat was in line with the data collected by the campaign committee during its canvassing effort. Approximately 35% of the households who responded to canvassers indicated they supported the measure. About 20% responded they opposed Prop C, while the remaining 45% indicated they were undecided. As we know from experience, most of the undecided voters are "no" votes. Last night's results confirmed our data was on target.

Many of you want to know where we go from here. I am certain the Board will do its best to receive feedback from the community with regard to the specific reasons why the ballot measure failed. The board will determine from there our next steps. I promise to let you know as soon as possible what our next steps will be.

On occasion every one of us will go through troubling times, and when that happens, it's easy to get disheartened. Even during periods of challenge and adversity, we must respond correctly.

What does an appropriate response look like? For starters, we must maintain a positive attitude. Even though having a positive attitude during something so negative does not seem logical, it actually makes sense.

Difficult experiences teach us endurance. Endurance is a quality required of any successful individual or organization. Many of you are exemplary models of this in the manner in which you have conducted yourselves both personally and professionally. Thank you for your example. I encourage you to continue.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you who worked hard in support of Prop C. The only failures in life are those who choose not to try to make this world a better place.

I promise to keep in close touch with you as we work together in the days ahead for a better future for the students of the Mehlville School District.

Sincerely,

Terry

  1. We are so lucky to have Terry Noble leading our district. It's a terrible shame that south county voters are so uninformed about the PSRS and the district's responsibility to follow state law regarding it that this great educator and administrator will be retiring soon. I hope that he sticks it out another year with us, but I wouldn't blame him if he put in his papers.... why work if you can make more staying home?

  2. Terry Noble should leave and be replaced with another incompetent superintendent who will give the employees bigger raises. I'm sure the public would be happy to vote YES on another tax increase. After all, IT'S FOR THE KIDS!

  3. Why is this letter addressed only to the staff and not the entire district? I thought it was about the kids.

  4. You would think you all would be more gracious winners. Then again, graciousness wasn't exactly part of your campaign, was it? You have no idea all that you have lost by your gain. I hope you never do. I don't want to live somewhere that's even uglier than what Mehlville has become.
